أمريكا تعيد بناء مستشفى الخطيب، وتجدد جميع مستلزماته ومعداته وعلاجاته ومدخراته الطبية

بغداد- العراق اليوم:

 أعلنت الولايات المتحدة اليوم عن تقديمها المساعدة المطلوبة العاجلة لإعادة فتح مستشفى ابن الخطيب في بغداد، والذي تعرض لأضرار بالغة في حريق مأساوي وقع في الـ 24 من شهر نيسان. ومن خلال منحة مُقَدَمَةٍ من الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية (USAID) ، شَرَعَت جمعية طلاب الطب الأمريكيين (AMSA)، فرع العراق، في تنظيف عدة طوابق من مبنى المستشفى اليوم. في الأسابيع المقبلة ستستبدل الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية المعدات الطبية وغير الطبية التي دُمرّت في الحريق، بما في ذلك أسرة المستشفيات وأجهزة مراقبة المرضى فضلاً عن معدات الحماية الشخصية اللازمة لعلاج مرضى كورونا. إضافة إلى ذلك، ستعمل الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية مع الدفاع المدني في بغداد على تنصيب منظومَةٍ جديدةٍ للسلامة من الحرائق في المستشفى، والتي ستَشتَمِلُ على الأرجح على منظومة رش إلى جانب أجهزة كشف الدخان ومستلزمات إطفاء الحرائق وسلالم مخارج الحريق ولافتات الطوارئ، كما ستُقيمُ جمعية طلاب الطب الأمريكيين نصباً تذكارياً لتكريم ذكرى ضحايا هذه المأساة.

          وقد صرّح مساعد وزير الخارجية بالإنابة جوي هود اليوم قائِلاً: "نأمل أن يُعيد مشروع التجديد هذا مستشفى ابن الخطيب إلى العمل في أسرع وقت ممكن وأن تساعد المعدات الجديدة وأنظمة السلامة من الحرائق في إنقاذ أرواح الناس، مع ضمان عدم تكرار مثل هذه المأساة أبداً". تعكس هذه المساعدة الالتزام الراسخ للولايات المتحدة بتحسين صحة ورفاهية الشعب العراقي، بما في ذلك جهودها لمكافحة جائحة كورونا.

          خصصت الولايات المتحدة أكثر من 20 مليار دولار للمساهمة في بادرة الاستجابة العالمية لفايروس كورونا، بما في ذلك الالتزامات بتطوير اللقاحات والعلاجات وجهود التأهب والمساعدات الخارجية. في شباط، أعلن الرئيس بايدن عن التزام الولايات المتحدة بدفع مبلغ 4 مليارات دولار لِمُنشأةِ كوفاكس – حيث العراق أحد أعضائها - لتطعيم الناس في جميع أرجاء المعمورة. لا يزال التمويل الأمريكي الضخم والجهود العلمية على هذه الجبهة جزءاً مركزياً ومنسقاً ضِمن سِياقِ الجهد العالمي ضد هذا الفيروس القاتل. تستند الجهود العالمية التي تبذلها الولايات المتحدة في مواجهة فايروس كورونا إلى عقود من الاستثمار الأمريكي في مجال الصحة المُنقذة للحياة فضلاً عن المساعدات الإنسانية.

United States Announces Assistance to Reopen Ibn al-Khatib Hospital

BAGHDAD – The United States announced today that it is delivering urgently needed assistance to reopen Baghdad’s Ibn al-Khatib Hospital, which was badly damaged in a tragic fire on April 24.  Through a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Iraq chapter of the American Medical Students Association (AMSA) began cleaning several floors of the hospital building today.  In the coming weeks USAID will also replace medical and non-medical equipment that was destroyed in the fire, including hospital beds, and patient monitors, as well as personal protective equipment needed to treat COVID-19 patients.  In addition, USAID will work with the Baghdad Civil Defense to install a new fire safety system at the hospital, which will likely include a sprinkler system along with smoke detectors, fire extinguishing supplies, fire exit ladders, and emergency signage.  AMSA will also create a memorial to the victims of the tragedy to honor their memory.

Acting Assistant Secretary of State Joey Hood said today, “We are hopeful that this refurbishment project will get the Ibn al-Khatib hospital back up and running as quickly as possible – and that the newly installed equipment and fire safety systems help save lives, while ensuring that such a tragedy can never happen again.”  This assistance reflects the deep commitment of the United States to the health and well-being of the Iraqi people, including its efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United States has allocated more than $20 billion to benefit the global response to COVID-19, including commitments for the development of vaccines and therapeutics, preparedness efforts, and foreign assistance.  In February, President Biden announced a $4 billion commitment by the United States to the COVAX Facility – of which Iraq is a member – to vaccinate people around the world.  Substantial U.S. funding and scientific efforts on this front remain a central and coordinated part of the worldwide effort against this deadly virus.  Global efforts by the United States in the face of COVID-19 build upon decades of U.S. investment in life-saving health and humanitarian assistance.
